Ciel d’Azur was founded in 1984 on a small-scale scent production operation in the Alpes-Maritimes department, with some of the original products, such as herbs for burning, more relevant now than they have ever been.
Indeed, unlike most products of this kind that may present problems, ours fully comply with recent regulations regarding the emission of toxic gases by fragrance products since they consist entirely of wild aromatic plants and natural resins.
The relocation in 1994 to the Luberon region near a rare clay quarry (Montmorillonite type), gave the craftsman the opportunity to develop a complete range of products with medicinal clay and organic extracts, and this, well in advance of his time.
At the time, label for organic cosmetics did not exist, even though we were working on the development of a set of specifications, particularly with Nature & Progrès.
We still manufacture this clay range under the now famous label “Cosmebio” which allows us to promote this approach towards organic methods.
In 1998, the founder Michel Touveron, with his passion for using local natural raw materials led him to develop a range of “beauty masks for walls”, or wall waxes, coloured using the famous Luberon ochres.
This side of the business grew rapidly through export and a patent was consequently filed. This was the case until 2003, when, after years of success, our products were copied countless times.
BDM Gold Award
On our relocation to an eco-friendly GHG emission-free building in Mane (04 – Alpes de Haute Provence), the Pur’Aloé range became Ciel d’Azur’s core business and the company was reborn as Ciel d’Azur Labs.
This building is designed to the latest standards for both cosmetic products (GMP standards) and foods (HACCP for aloe treatment products). In July 2017 the building won a Silver Award from the Association Bâtiments Durables Méditerranéens (‘Sustainable Mediterranean Buildings Association’) for its design and construction phases, before going on to achieve a Gold Award for its operational practices.
Until then, France had been lagging behind in terms of its knowledge of aloe vera, to the extent that there had been virtually no previous French-language publications relating to the plant. The theses of Dr Morin published in Octobere 2008 and Dr Michayewicz published in 2013, have since made up for this delay, and we are grateful to them for their exhaustive work on the subject in the French language.
Things have moved on a lot since then and the aloe vera plant is now well known in our country. We have become the leader in our field and the only manufacturer of aloe-based products in France, controlling the entire process from cultivation right through to the finished product.
In the summer, windows are opened as much as possible to promote air circulation and reduce heat.
The 1.000m2 photovoltaic panels in biverre serve as protection since they let only 50% of the sun’s rays pass through.
The main contribution is made by geothermal energy (recovery of calories stored in the ground).
The temperature in Haute Provence varies from -10°C to 40°C depending on the season. For at least 6 months of the year, the temperature in the greenhouse is higher than outside.
A storage basin (in the form of water) for daytime heat allows the use of the heat accumulated at night and on days when there is no sun.
In cold periods the calories are stored in the 300m3 of cultivation land and in the 72m3 of water in the basin
The Pur’Aloé INTENSE HYDRATION range is mainly made up of Native Aloe Arborescens.
This wild aloe provides intense hydration thanks to its high content of acemannan, in addition to containing a large quantity of natural active ingredients with antioxidant properties in its leaves.
This range is suitable for all skin types, but is particularly recommended for the driest and most fragile skins.
The Premium range is the result of more than 15 years of expertise in the use and research of active ingredients present in different varieties of aloe.
Each product in the PREMIUM line concentrates the active ingredients of Aloe arborescens, Aloe vera and powerful natural extracts.
The PREMIUM line helps fight the undesirable effects of the signs of aging and restores the skin’s natural radiance.
The PREMIUM range is ideal for mature skin and fragile hair that are attacked daily (pollution, sun, etc.)
The alliance of our clays and thermal spring water from Digne-les-Bains in Haute Provence.
Our Lutescens range offers the benefits of medicinal clays combined with thermal spring water. Two mineral-rich elements that form an exceptional mineralizing peloid.
This synergy provides soothing, purifying and remineralizing properties, particularly suitable for body, face, scalp and oral care.
When Michel Touveron first launched the aloe vera range, the plant was virtually unknown in France.
From the very beginning, we chose to work with the pulp of aloe, Native Aloe (see our manufacturing process HERE).
For 20 years on now, we’ve been producing the widest range of cosmetics and food supplements with certified organic Native Aloe vera.
In 2022, we’re launching the Intense Hydration range, with Aloe arborescens, and the Premium range, a synergy of Aloe vera and arborescens.
